And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds. 46 But when he came to them with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) behold! They laughed at them. 47 We showed them Sign after Sign, each greater than its fellow, and We seized them with Punishment, in order that they might turn (to Us). 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 When We relieved them from the torment they suddenly turned back on their heels. 50 And Firon proclaimed amongst his people: O my people! is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? And these rivers flow beneath me; do you not then see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 Why were bracelets of gold not bestowed upon him? Why did a retinue of angels not accompany him as attendants?” 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 and made them a thing of the past and an example for those who would come after them. 56
