We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 And We did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and We overtook them with chastisement that they may turn. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: 'O my people, do I not possess the kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flowing beneath me? What, do you not see? 51 Am I better or this contemptible man who is scarcely able to express himself? 52 Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? 53 So when he had brainwashed his people, they followed him; indeed they were a disobedient nation. 54 Then when they provoked Our wrath, We took revenge on them and drowned every one of them. 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
