۞ When the son of Mary is mentioned as an example, your people turn away from it 57 and said: “Who is better, our deities or he?” They said so only out of contentiousness. They are a disputatious people. 58 He was no more than a servant (of Ours), one upon whom We bestowed Our favours and whom We made an example (of Our infinite power) for the Children of Israel. 59 And if We willed, We could have made [instead] of you angels succeeding [one another] on the earth. 60 And indeed Eisa is a sign* of the Last Day, therefore do not ever doubt in the Last Day, and obey Me**; this is the Straight Path. (* The advent of Prophet Eisa to earth for the second time. ** By obeying the Noble Messenger.) 61 And do not ever let the devil stop you; he is indeed your open enemy. 62 And when 'Iesa (Jesus) came with (Our) clear Proofs, he said: "I have come to you with Al-Hikmah (Prophethood), and in order to make clear to you some of the (points) in which you differ, therefore fear Allah and obey me, 63 Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore serve Him; this is the right path: 64 The various factions among them differed -- woe then to those who did wrong: they will suffer the punishment of a painful Day. 65 Are they waiting except for the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they perceive not? 66 Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except Al-Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 67
