Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
