Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
