Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
