Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
