Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We now remove the punishment for some days so you will again commit the same. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
