Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
