Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
