Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
