Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
