Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
