Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 and fields of grain, and noble dwellings, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
