Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
