and We saved the Children of Israel from a humiliating punishment 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 We knowingly chose them above all other people 32 And granted them signs in which there was a plain trial. 33 Yet those who deny the truth say, 34 "That [which is ahead of us] is but our first [and only] death, and we shall not be raised to life again. 35 "Then bring back our fore-fathers, if you speak the truth!" 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those who were before them whom We destroyed? Indeed they were sinners. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play. 38 We created them with definite purpose; but most of them do not understand. 39 Surely the Day of Decision shall be their appointed time, all together, 40 A Day whereon a friend shall not avail a friend at all, nor shall they be helped. 41 Except those [believers] on whom Allah has mercy. Indeed, He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 42
