Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement, 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world 32 and showed them signs in which there was a clear test. 33 Yet those who deny the truth say, 34 'There is nothing but our first death; we shall not be revived. 35 Bring us our fathers, if what you say is true' 36 Are they better, or the people of Tubba' and those before them whom We destroyed? They were surely sinners. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is in-between the twain sporting. 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,- 40 A Day whereon a friend shall not avail a friend at all, nor shall they be helped. 41 Except such as receive Allah's Mercy: for He is Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 42
