So We saved the children of Israel from degrading suffering 30 at the hands of Pharaoh: he was a tyrant who exceeded all bounds. 31 We knowingly chose them above all other people 32 And We gave them signs in which lay clear favours. 33 Lo! these, forsooth, are saying: 34 'There is nothing except the first death, we shall never be revived. 35 Bring back to us our fathers if you are truthful.” 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals. 37 And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in sport. 38 We created them with definite purpose; but most of them do not understand. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 A Day whereon a friend shall not avail a friend at all, nor shall they be helped. 41 except those to whom Allah shows mercy. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 42
