We saved the Children of Israel from their humiliating torment 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 We knowingly exalted them (i.e., the Children of Israel) above other peoples of the world 32 and showed them signs in which there was a clear test. 33 Indeed these disbelievers proclaim; – 34 There is naught but our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth! 36 Are these better or the people of Tubba and those who went before them? We destroyed them for they were a criminal people. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play, 38 We have created them for a genuine purpose, but most people do not know. 39 Verily the Day of sorting out is the time appointed for all of them,- 40 the Day when no friend shall be of the least avail to another, nor shall any be helped, 41 save those upon whom God will have bestowed His grace and mercy: for, verily, He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace. 42
