Muhammad (Muhammad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
AS FOR THOSE who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God - all their [good] deeds will He let go to waste; 1 But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and believe in the (Revelation) sent down to Muhammad - for it is the Truth from their Lord,- He will remove from them their ills and improve their condition. 2 That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, and have given them their dowries, taking (them) in marriage, not fornicating nor taking them for paramours in secret; and whoever denies faith, his work indeed is of no account, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers. 3 When you meet those who deny the truth in battle, strike them in the neck, and once they are defeated, make [them] prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as an act of grace, or let them ransom [themselves] until the war is finally over. Thus you shall do; and if God had pleased, He would certainly have exacted retribution from them, but His purpose is to test some of you by means of others. As for those who are killed in God's cause, He will never let their deeds be in vain; 4 He will guide them and improve their condition; 5 And admit them to Paradise which He has made known to them (i.e. they will know their places in Paradise more than they used to know their houses in the world). 6 O you who believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allah, He will help you, and make your foothold firm. 7 As to those who disbelieve, perdition lies in store for them and Allah has reduced their works to nought. 8 That is because they hate that which Allah has sent down (this Quran and Islamic laws, etc.), so He has made their deeds fruitless. 9 ۞ So did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those who preceded them? Allah poured ruin upon them; and for the disbelievers are several like it. 10 That is because Allah is the Protector of the believers whereas the unbelievers have none to protect them. 11
