Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 by the ships which smoothly sail on the oceans, 3 by the angels which distribute the affairs, 4 that what you are promised is certainly true 5 and surely the Doom is about to fall! 6 By the heaven with its numerous forms: 7 surely you are at variance (about the Hereafter); 8 From which only he turns who is turned away. 9 They but destroy themselves, they who are given to guessing at what they cannot ascertain 10 who are steeped in ignorance and heedlessness. 11 they who [mockingly] ask, "When is that Day of Judgment to be?" 12 It will be the Day when they shall be scourged by the Fire 13 and will be told, "Suffer the torment which you wanted to experience immediately". 14 Surely those who fear God and follow the straight path will be amidst gardens and fresh springs of water, 15 Taking that which their Lord giveth them; for lo! aforetime they were doers of good; 16 They used to sleep but little of the night, 17 And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allah) for forgiveness, 18 and the beggar and the outcast had a share in their wealth. 19 AND ON EARTH there are signs [of God's existence, visible] to all who are endowed with inner certainty, 20 And also in your own selves. Behold ye not? 21 And in the heaven is your providence and that which ye are promised; 22 By the Lord of the heaven and the earth it is sure, even as it is a fact that ye are speaking. 23
