AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they entered upon him, they said: Peace. Peace, said he, a strange people. 25 Then he turned away privately unto his household, and brought a calf fatted. 26 And placing it before them said: "Won't you eat?" 27 And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy. 28 Then came forward his wife, clamouring, and she smote her face, and said, 'An old woman, barren!' 29 'Such, says your Lord' they replied: 'He is the Wise, the Knower' 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" 31 They said: "We have been sent to a wicked people 32 so that we may bring down upon them a shower of stones of clay, 33 “That are kept marked, with your Lord, for the transgressors.” 34 So We brought out from therein the believers. 35 But We found there but one house of those surrendered (to Allah). 36 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 There is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But Pharaoh turned away, showing arrogance on account of his power, and said (about Moses): “He is either a sorcerer or a madman.” 39 So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and he was blamable. 40 And in Aad. We let loose on them a withering wind 41 that left nothing it came upon, except that it was ashes. 42 And in Thamood it was said to them: 'Take your enjoyment for awhile' 43 after they had turned with disdain from their Sustainer's commandment - whereupon the thunderbolt of punishment overtook them while they were [helplessly] looking on: 44 They were unable even to stand up or protect themselves. 45 And the people of Nuh before, surely they were a transgressing people. 46
