The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 and a Book inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the roof exalted, 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
