The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
