The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 The roof raised high, 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none to avert it. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 such as play at plunging, 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
