The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the mount. 1 and a Book inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 and the roof uplifted 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 none can avert that. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
