The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
