The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
