The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
