The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all the Hereafter and this world. 25
