The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and descended 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
