The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
