The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
