The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
