The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
