The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is Paradise. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
