The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
