The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
