The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
