The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
