The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
