The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 and taught to him 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
