The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
