The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then came down close 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
