The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
