The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
