The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
