The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
