The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Therefore turn away from them; on the day when the announcer will call towards a severe unknown matter – 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
