The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 The pinnacle of wisdom so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
